ASME SA 234 WP9 Pipe Fittings is a nickel – iron – chromium austenitic alloy that was developed for maximum resistance to acid attack, specifically sulphuric acid. It is designed specifically to withstand sulphuric acid. The nickel, chromium, molybdenum and copper levels of ASTM A234 WP9 Alloy Butt Weld Pipe Fittings provide excellent general corrosion resistance. Restricted carbon plus columbium stabilization permits welded fabrications to be used in corrosive environments, normally without post - weld heat treatment.

ASME SA 234 WP9 Alloy Butt Weld Fittings is also stabilized with Columbium to minimize carbide precipitation during welding. It appears to fall between both the stainless and nickel categories as it contains characteristics of both.

Application of ASTM A234 WP9 Alloy Pipe Fittings could result in real cost savings when carefully compared to higher - cost alloys to determine if the necessary resistance is obtained in the chosen media. Applications are limited to a maximum temperature of 1000 Degree F per ASME, where special precautions should be taken to avoid excessive heat input.
